Ripon College adds Brown, Outagamie counties to its commitment to regional neighbors

Ripon, WI (10/14/2021) — Ripon College is expanding its Local Commitment Award outreach to two additional counties in Wisconsin - Outagamie County and Brown County.

Two years ago, Ripon College launched its Local Commitment Award, offering financial assistance of up to $34,000 per year to students who graduated from high school in the four counties immediately surrounding the campus. The first awards were presented to students applying for the 2020-2021 academic year and who had attended high school in Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake or Winnebago counties. They also could apply for additional need-based financial aid.

The number of students from the four counties who have been admitted to Ripon has been increasing since the start of the initiative. "We attribute much of that to this strategy to back a private education affordable to students in our own backyard," said Jennifer Machacek, vice president for enrollment. Because of this success, Ripon College now is expanding its outreach to Outagamie County and Brown County.

All students from the six designated counties who apply for the 2022-2023 academic year and are admitted to Ripon College qualify immediately for the Local Commitment Award.

"Ripon College delivers a high-quality education at almost the same cost as schools in the University of Wisconsin system," said Zach Messitte, Ripon's president. "At Ripon, all of our students receive financial assistance, either in the form of scholarships or direct aid. Our mission remains true to educating Wisconsin's best and brightest."
